Story: Jafar Iqbal coming out of my shell
I am very much a poster-child for the transformative power of both art and university. I spent two of my three uni years at Bretton Hall, a performance-based campus in rural West Yorkshire.
I was a shy and quiet boy from a sheltered background, very little experience of the world outside my family. Suddenly I was living and studying and playing alongside actors, dancers, singers, musicians and all manner of exciting artists. Passionate people who helped me unlock my creative potential and the confidence to explore my imagination. I now work as a writer and theatre critic.
It was a life-changing experience for me, one that has undoubtedly shaped the artist I am today. The people I met at that time in my life remain dear friends to this day.View Story Archive
